I feel more confident when I cook.
Also, I'm getting much less uncomfortable without the TV. It was just getting through about the first week; I'd stand there and not know what to do with myself. Now I've been listening to music, cooking, and other things I forgot I did before.
That standing around thing is totally what I did/do when I'm cutting back on "screen time" as the people trying to get kids to stop zoning out at all their screens call it.
ReplyDeleteHere are things I've found I enjoy filling that time with:
- puzzles. come to May puzzle swap with me! it's in a grange in Tualatin: http://portlandpuzzles.org/
- play an instrument
- write and mail a letter to my pal. bonus points for making your own awesome envelope and stationary
- taking a long time organizing or arranging things (books, clothes, cases, art...)
- go through things and get rid of stuff you don't use
-listen to NPR (sometimes a snoozefest, other times awesome)
- listen to podcasts. There's this radio show in Windsor that I've gotten into, it plays just women and women fronted bands. The DJ is a bit absurd, but the music is usually great. I'm embarrassed to say the name of it. It's on this station Mondays at 7pm. http://cjamlog3.cjam.ca/test-program-guid/ (But I just download the podcasts)
And here's something that I've really been wanting to do: go on a plant scavenger hunt. I want to walk around different neighborhoods of the city and take pictures of flowers and trees I like. Then I want to figure out what they all are and have a sweet list or book or something for when I own some sweet property.
And I guess I should add writing long blog comments to the list.
Puzzle swap: Yes.
DeletePlant scavenger hunt: YES. I know a thing or two about some plants, and when I go on walks I analyze people's landscaping and plant choices, it's what keeps my walk interesting.
I love all those ideas.
let's start the adventure this week. Is there some neighborhood you know is the bomb or want to check out? Do you have any of those sweet books you use to identify plants?
ReplyDeleteMy neighborhood is awesome for finding beautiful plants. And yes, I have a sweet Western Garden Book for identifying. Let's do it.
